Quote from Patrick Lencioni

The quote from Patrick Lencioni is a bit on the comical side, but there is also a lesson for leadership in this nugget.

“As a leader, you’re probably not doing a good job unless your employees can do a good impression of you when you’re not around.”
Patrick Lencioni

To be a leader and to have influence, the people you lead have to know you.

When you know someone, you understand their characteristics and, important for a leader, the nature of their character. The knowledge of another person leads to understanding of personality traits which may or may not contribute to leadership.

A great personality or even being personable is not a requirement for a leader. In fact, there are many leaders in history who are quite notable for personality quirks.

The quirks of leaders can be mimicked and when your employees are able to mimic you, rest assured that that is when your employees are starting to get to know you.
