This will probably be the only time that you will read about Britney Spears in this blog, but, anyway… I seem to recall a hearing a song from Britney on the radio, called, “Do Something.” Don’t ask me about the lyrics or even what the song was about; I merely remember that single phrase.
That phrase is also important for leaders. You have to do something.
Leadership quote from Homer’s Virgil:
“Fortune sides with he who dares.”
On August 3rd, I published an entry: Ready, set… Action! The point in the short entry was to “take action.” As a leader, you are leading from a place or position to another. Leadership is an active responsibility, not a passive one.
To take that to the next step, positive outcomes, fortune, happen when you step outside the norm and push the envelope, dare. You may or may not believe in Karma, but that’s irregardless. Many of the stories of great leaders are stories of individuals who pushed the borders of an organization’s comfort zone. Greatness is going beyond normal expectations.
Think of it as risk versus reward. In Finance, a general measure is the higher the risk, the higher the reward. If you’re seeking a higher reward, then you need to push the envelope, stretch the organization’s comfort zone, and find fortune, positive outcomes, at the end of the journey.
